Wallingford Beach was one of 27 sites designated as ‘bathing sites’ in 2024. Water must now legally be tested, but is not guaranteed fit for swimming. In 2023, there was a total of 3.6 million hours of sewage discharge into UK rivers. Thames Water increased its discharges by 50% in 2024 over 2023.
